Tolith Adrall

Robbie James Blower messaged us on Facebook with the bare minimum to a character. He knew he wanted his character to be an assassin/thief, in a guild, and the best at what he does. He wanted them to kind of not like the killing part, but knew it had to be down. After chatting back and forth, we came to a conclusion on how to write this story. Enjoy!

Tolith Adrall was born into a very wealthy family in a large town. His father and mother both ran an exclusive guild, where only the best of the best could get into. The true dealings of this guild are unknown to the government running the town. To them, they believe they are a wealthy merchant guild who trade rare and legendary items. But, the guild is actually a group of highly trained assassins and thieves, living off the wealthy and killing anyone who gets in their way.

Tolith was trained extensively as a child to fit into small spaces, and steal without anyone noticing. No one would suspect an innocent child to have devious and malicious intentions. So his father and mother pretended to scold him and went about their business. The family would be invited to fancy parties where the richest of the town would gather to meet out of town aristocrats. While they were there, Tolith would be sent off to 'explore', while the grown-ups talked. But that was all apart of their master plan.

As Tolith grew into his teenage years, he realized the dark intentions of the families guild. His father told him their true mission and how they've raised him to be the perfect assassin. He felt like he was cheated out of childhood! How could they do this to him? But, that's the way the world within the guild works. His father truly believed that he would be the best thief ever and he was pushing his son towards his ultimate goal. At 12, his father gave him his first-ever mission; break into the house of this low tier government official and steal anything worth lots of gold. Hesitant and nervous, he accepted the mission and head off.

Late at night, the small wood elf successfully managed to break into the house without any problems. Things were going great! He was snagging precious items and gold that was hidden in various and random places throughout the house. He felt alive and was so thrilled that everything was going his way! But then, the worst happened. Tolith accidentally knocked over a large vase in the second-floor hallway and it smashed into a million pieces, sending a loud crash throughout the house. The family of the official woke up and saw Tolith sprinting towards his exit. The official whistled and the guard dogs that were hiding in the bedroom rushed out after him. Knowing he was caught, he stopped and froze with his hands up. From there, the local police force showed up and whisked him off to the cell.

Hours later, Tolith's father arrived. He paid the bail amount and promised the officer that he would handle all the punishment. They walked home in silence, his father's anger seemly wafting from his stiff form. He knew he had messed up and something bad was about to happen.

When they arrived home, his father drug him into the backyard where a large fire was burning in their pit. His mother stood off to the side in the shadows, crying softly and shielding her face with her hair. Tolith was sat and bound to a chair. His father's eyes glowed with anger. He stood by the fire with his arms crossed.

"You must understand the crime you've done! If it would have been an actual mission, you would have died! You can't be so reckless! You need to learn," he yelled, the fire jumping in his eyes, making him look sinister.

He reached down and picked up a long rod. The end that was in the fire was glowing a bright red and had the symbol of the guild on it. His father staggered closer and grabbed his son's hand with an unusual amount of strength. Ignoring his screams to stop, and his wife's crying, he pressed the smoldering hot metal into his hand, permanently branding him as the assassin he is meant to be.

Years have passed since that night and Tolith trained hard to become the perfect assassin his father wanted him to be. He grew to hate murdering people but knew he needed to out of fear of his father. Once the elf reached adulthood, he managed to escape and fled from the guild. He wanted to start a new life, away from the murders and stealing, and away from the sharp gaze of his father. But, every time he looks down, he's constantly reminded of what his destiny used to be and the horrors he left behind.
