Hello, Scribes! Welcome to another backstory! Today's story was brought to us by Robbie, who needed a backstory to go with a Dragonborn he was planning to play. He wanted the character to be a Cleric of War who loved the riches of war and being celebrated as a war hero. Here is what we came up with!
Krorug's upbringing was anything but usual. He was born into a town named Adaburn, which had been in a civil war for the last 100 years. It started long ago over the Artifact, a powerful magic gem that is supposed to go to the ruler of the town. Two people were voted up to be the next ruler but instead of a peaceful debate, it ended up starting a full-on civil war. One of the people wanted peace for the town and the other wanted to rule with an iron fist to get everyone in shape. The followers of each began to get violent and threw the town into a war.
Axle and Tryan were elf twins who came from a very rich family. Their family was heavily involved in the politics in the town and a lot of the town officials came from this family. When they were born, a mage came to the family and told them their future. The two twins would be the ones to throw the town into ruins and a young hero would come and defeat them both and claim the throne. The family didn't believe this crazy mage and sent her away. There's no way that the sons of noble and powerful blood would bring about the ruin of the city.
Except, they did just that. The two sides couldn't agree on anything ever. After 100 years, they still couldn't come to an agreement on what to do. Hundreds of people on both sides died for their cause and what they thought was right. There seemed to be no end to the bloodshed and no conclusion to the war at hand.
That is until Krorug joined the army. Although he was originally on Tryan's side, the peaceful one, he eventually joined Axle's side. He became almost a double agent, learned the secrets to both sides and telling the brother what the other one was plotting. Everyone trusted him and admired his skills in battle. He became a very important piece to the puzzle of both sides, which is why it was so shocking when he revolted against both sides.
With the help of disgruntled people, he created a third army to stop the war that rallied around the Artifact, which was said to be missing. The people of Adaburn were sick and tired of living in constant fear and just wanted their lives to go back to normal. With Krorug as their leader and the Artifact aiding them, they quickly and easily defeated both armies, forcing both sides to surrender. Krorug was celebrated as a war hero, the savior of the town and rewarded handsomely. The town threw a three-day-long party to not only glorify Krorug, but to celebrate the ending of the 100-year war.
The land grew peaceful after that. Adaburn rebuilt with Name as the rightful ruler. Money was coming in and people were able to live in peace again. The two twins were thrown into jail for the rest of their lives to atone for the sins they caused. Krorug decided to step down as the leader and gave up his power for the call to adventure. He loved the feeling of being a celebrated hero and there were plenty of other towns to be saved. With the Artifact in hand, Name set out into the world to create a heroic name for himself in the history of many different towns.
*Name of character was filled in to fit the story.
The original idea was given to us by Robbie James Blower. It was written and edited by us, Bards of Lore!
I like the take on the cleric of war you have going on here!
